You might agree that owning a classic Porsche is rarely just about having a vehicle to get you from A to B… Indeed, if that were the case, we’d probably all just be running around in well, any old run around. For many owners, their Porsches represent something far deeper; indeed, an emotional connection that goes beyond just practicality and performance. Whether it’s the smell of old, fading leather, the satisfying thud of a proper solid door closing, or the familiar shape of a beloved bonnet that reminds you of a different time period, many classic Porsches hold a special place in their owners’ hearts. Owners exchange tips, trade parts and swap stories of the highs and lows of restorations and driving experiences. This camaraderie is a huge part of the appeal - certainly, it’s not just about the car, but about the friendships and connections it facilitates. I think this is one of the best parts of classic Porsche ownership, if you wanted my opinion! 

A welcome escape…

For many, it seems that working on (or just driving a classic Porsche) offers an escape from the pressures of modern life. The experience is often slower, more deliberate, and far more engaging than the digital, touchscreen-laden experience of today’s vehicles. The physicality of having to find and use the right tool to get things started, or the feel of an old (read: difficult) gearbox is therapeutic for some. Think about it - often you can’t just get in and drive off. You might need to get it warmed up a bit, and let things tick over for a while. The driver’s window might be jammed and need a little convincing to move… All part of the experience, and a chance to feel the true essence of a car that in some cases, is defying the passage of time.

Essentially, our classic Porsches that we care for and drive are so much more than just any old cars. They are super little vehicles filled with memories, meaning, and emotion. Whether they are ultimately cherished for their beauty, history, or just the way they make someone feel, the bond between the owner and their vehicle is usually deeply personal. It’s what makes classic Porsches so enduringly special, and why, for so many, it’s a passion that lasts a lifetime.
